The Texas Medical Center Orchestra will sponsor a bicycle ride on April 3, 2011, for the benefit of the orchestra and the National Multiple Sclerosis Society:  Lone Star.  The ride will be a "gran fondo" type of ride which in Italian means "big ride".  "This type of ride has become immensely popular in Europe" said Phil Pauzé, Event General Director and organizer.  "These rides are for all riders regardless of expertise and skill and include skilled cyclists Categories 1 through 5 as well as amateur cyclists in the recreational category.

Some of the best road surfaces in the greater Houston area are found in Waller County along the northwest corridor of Highway 290 West. The Gran Fondo: Texas TMCO has maximized these roads to create routes that are unique, safe and challenging. Scheduled just 2 weeks prior to the BP MS150 and 2 weeks following the last Texas Cup race, the timed component of the two longer routes (100K and 100 mile) will allow riders of every skill and competitive level to compare themselves to their fellow riders. From the flat and rolling roads at the start at Houston Oaks Country Club & Family Sports Resort to the 6-7% grades of the hills around White Hall, expect the perfect final test for those riding the BP MS150, an ideal benchmark ride for those triathletes participating in the Memorial Hermann Ironman or a 'no excuse/ no regret' incentive to "Cat up" as the ride will meet USAC Gran Fondo requirements.
